Learning to use a Digital Camera

Now it’s time to start learning to use a digital camera. Many people just buy a camera and have no idea of how to use any of its features. It can be very confusing with all the new features the cameras have today but have no fear. This article will teach you the most important features that you need to know to be able to take great photos, even with cheap digital cameras. If you are looking to buy a new digital camera then you have done the right thing to read this article first. Learning to use a digital camera can be very exciting and fun once you have the basic understanding of how it works.

Most digital cameras come programmed with automatic settings for exposure compensation, selected scene positions, aperture, shutter speed and focus. Learning how to use a digital camera for taking professional looking photos, you have to enter the manual mode. This might sound a bit scary but it’s pretty easy.

Here is a quick snapshot of some of the features you need to be able to use:

Macro
Macro is used for close-up shooting. When you are photographing in macro mode and use the flash, make sure you remove your camera’s lens adapter ring. Otherwise you will notice a shadow image at the bottom of the end result.

Continuous Shooting
This setting is what almost all paparazzi photographs are using to be able to take many shots in a row without a break. This is very good when photographing moving targets, like running animals or a fantastic goal in a football game.

Shutter Speed
How long the shutter should stay open depends on the sense of motion you want to photograph. If you want to take a photo of someone scoring an amazing ice hockey goal, then you need to have a fast shutter speed to freeze the player just when shooting the goal. At nighttime is really good to use a slow shutter speed. Test it out during nighttime with slow shutter speed and you will notice some really cool pictures you didn’t think you could make.

Aperture
This is the opening of the camera’s lens. If you alter the aperture setting you will change the depth of focus. You use a larger aperture when you want the background to be out of focus. If you want the background and foreground to also remain in focus you should select a smaller aperture.

Now you can start to play around with these settings. Learning to use a digital camera to take professional looking pictures is not that hard. You have already learned the basic settings here and if you dig a bit deeper you have it all. Just don’t and read all day, get our and start practicing. The best way to learn is by reading and doing, reading and doing.
